Formative Sources

This major is shaped primarily by the Old and New Testament departments, in collaboration with part of Historical Theology. A wide range of historical, literary and linguistic methods is employed to question the texts for their eloquence. The dynamics by which biblical passages not only draw on their own social and cultural background, but also critically and transformational respond to it, occupy an important place here. Indeed, this is precisely how the texts illuminate how they not only relate to speaking about God in the Bible as a whole, but also have significance for numerous contemporary issues. Upon completion, you will be deeply formed in scholarly study of the Bible and other sources of Christian tradition.
